At chiropractor`s office, the most common are people that are coming with sciatica pain.
Some of the patients have an excruciating pain so they are crawling sometimes on their knees and hands when they are coming to the chiropractor.
What is the cause of sciatica pain and how we can treat it? First we need to understand what SCIATICA is.
The real meaning of Sciatica
With term sciatica we can describe symptoms of pain that start in the lower back, it`s extending through the buttock, then thigh and into our lower leg and foot.
These sciatica pain symptoms can occur when the nerve root or nerve is pinched or compressed in the lower back which is leading to painful pain, weakness into the leg and numbness.
There are a few locations where nerve root or nerve can be pinched or compressed.
Lumbar disc herniation comes the most commonly on the disc`s weakest point.
That is a part where the nerve root goes out from a spinal canal.
When a disc herniates in that location, directly makes contacts to the nerve root that is exiting through space and thus activating our nerve and is causing the feeling of pain and numbness radiating into our leg.
Sciatica pain can be very unpleasant and painful
How can we relieve and treat sciatica pain?
- Ice / Heat therapy
At the early stage of sciatica, we can use ice packs or heat packs which can help and reduce inflammation and pain at the source of our problem.
Ice packs help to reduce swelling and inflammation while heat packs help to loosen the muscle.
- Physiotherapy and chiropractic care
Both physiotherapists and chiropractors use a wide range of treatments to promote proper motion and to help relieve pain.
These can include exercises, electrotherapy, manipulation, joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, ultrasound and other modalities.
You can get advice from your health care provider what treatment is good and right for you.
- McKenzie exercises
These are exercises and they are prescribed by physiotherapists and chiropractors that are effective in centralizing the pain and decreasing leg pain.
Before you start with this exercise is good to have a consultation with your physiotherapist.
You can also take 60 seconds short exercises to get rid of Sciatica pain.
- Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture
A lot of people use successfully a sciatica pain with acupuncture.
Acupuncture is causing micro trauma to the muscles which are releasing hormones – Endorphins.
Endorphins help to calm muscle pain and nerve and reduce symptoms of sciatica pain.
- Decompression therapy and Lumbar spine traction
Some of the therapists are using instrument and manual assisted traction therapy and on that way they help to spread lumbar vertebrae.
On that way, they allow disc materials to become again absorbed the outer disc materials.
This is a good solution if other treatments don`t give results.
